Amazon.co.uk Review

Denise Holton's life is a fragile mix of luck and hard work in Nicholas Sparks' The Rescue. A single mum of a speech-delayed son, Denise makes ends meet by moving to the small town of Edenton, North Carolina and working the late shift as a waitress. When Denise crashes her car and her son Kyle flees the accident and disappears into the storm, her only stroke of luck is the quick arrival of Taylor McAden, a volunteer fireman. Taylor's got a knack of fixing people and he can't help wanting to be involved with Denise beyond the initial rescue of Kyle.

As Taylor helps Denise recover from the accident, they discover a sweet bond and a magical chemistry that pulls them closer and closer. Though Taylor fits perfectly into Denise's family, he's unable to open his heart to being loved by her. As Taylor struggles to understand his conflicting desires, Denise questions the wisdom of gambling with Kyle's and her own emotions.

Author Nicholas Sparks has found a loyal audience for his stories about the internal battles that accompany the arrival of love. His heroes may be truck-driving manly men and his heroines emotionally tragic but it's easy to overlook the traditional roles when the complexities of human relationships are so beautifully described. Sparks has found his forte and this novel is sure to be as popular as his earlier works. --Nancy R E O'Brien, Amazon.com

Review

'Achingly moving and will have you weeping for the joy and tragedy of it all...please read it' Daily Mail. 'Sparks generates authentic emotional power...If you're in need of a good cry, The Notebook is absolutely the right book' USA Today. 'Sparks' second novel proves that his bestselling The Notebook was no fluke as once again, he offers his audience a deeply moving, beautifully written, and extremely romantic love story' Booklist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rescued, 19 Oct 2003
What an amazing read! Nicolas Sparks is an outstanding writer with a small collection of published works under his belt, three of which have become major motion pictures. This effort is a tremendous story about Denise and her son Kyle who struggle in a small town after years of knock-backs. Until he rescue's her one stormy night on a highway. Taylor. The mysterious stranger with dark secrets and an enigmatic charm. The story reveals many layers and undertones and is at times predictable but this is why we love Nic sparks. He delivers the goods and The Rescue is no exception. This novel made my flight fly by and after reading all his other works (from the amazing A Walk To Remember, the tearjerking Message In A Bottle, the nostalgic Nights In Rodanthe and the amazing A Bend In The Road) so get inspired - read this novel and get swept away into a world where love conquers all!

This review is from: The Rescue (Paperback)
After reading my first Nicholas Sparks novel about three weeks ago I became addicted to his writing. The Rescue was the third book I have read since and true to his roots he has produced an amazing piece of romantic literature.
The story touches on so many aspects of humanity and love it has you turning the pages lost in the story absorbing every emotion, word, action the characters go through. The Rescue is like a modern fairy tale.
Towards the end I felt as if I had been on this amazing journey of emotional power with the characters. Highly recommend it, and hope you will as well.
